Quezon City waives real property tax penalties until March 31

Delinquent real property tax owners in Quezon City are now exempted from paying interests accumulated from unpaid previous taxes as the City Council passed a measure granting them amnesty.

Mayor Joy Belmonte has signed Ordinance No. SP-2979 that grants all outstanding real property tax liabilities and delinquencies on land, building or improvements, and machineries, as assessed by the City Assessor’s Office, relief from the payment of interests on real property tax deficiency.

Taxpayers are given until March 31 to accomplish the amnesty application form and pay the delinquent real property taxes either in full or by installment basis.

The ordinance was introduced by Majority Floor Leader Coun. Franz Pumaren and Councilor Victor Ferrer Jr.

Belmonte said the city government recognizes the long-term effect of COVID-19, which may burden citizens financially.

“We will continue to provide compassionate support for all our residents and businesses who are still feeling the effects of COVID-19 on our economy,” said Belmonte.

Meanwhile, real property owners who pay their tax for year 2021 on or before March 31, 2021 can avail of the 20 percent discount.

As of this writing, the city government has provided other tax schemes for taxpayers:

Extension of Business Tax Payment including Fees and Charges from JANUARY 20 to APRIL 20, 2021 without penalty, surcharges, and interest
Condoning the surcharge and interest for the delayed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Quarter installments for 2020 business tax until MARCH 31, 2021
Suspended imposition of real property tax on land based on the approved schedule of fair market values until DECEMBER 2022
