QCPD arrest 111 suspects in illegal gambling

Quezon City launched an all-out crackdown against all forms of illegal gambling with the arrest of 111 individuals, including the rescue of seven minors, from Jan. 27 to Feb. 5, according to Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Citing a report from the Quezon City Police District QCPD, Belmonte said the QCPD conducted 62 anti-gambling operations that resulted in the filing of 33 cases against the suspects.
“We commend the QCPD, headed by PBGen. Ronnie Siroy Montejo, for heeding our call to strengthen its crackdown on illegal gambling in our city,” said Belmonte.
“Pero hindi pa rito natatapos ang kampanya dahil umpisa pa lang ito ng tuluy-tuloy nating laban kontra ilegal na sugal sa ating lungsod. Tiwala ako na hindi titigil ang ating kapulisan hanggang sa masugpo natin ito,” she added.
According to the QCPD, Police Station PS1 in La Loma conducted 2 raids with 3 arrested, PS2 in Masambong (7 raids, 14 arrested), PS3 Talipapa (7 raids, 9 arrested), PS4 Novaliches (8 raids, 15 arrested), PS5 Fairview (3 raids, 3 arrested), PS6 Batasan Hills (8 raids, 6 arrested); 
PS7 Cubao k5 raids, 8 arrested), PS8 Project 4 (1 raid, 18 arrested), PS9 Anonas (1 raid, 4 arrested), PS10 Kamuning (2 raids, 4 arrested), PS11 Galas (2 raids, 14 arrested); District Headquarters (16 raids, 13 arrested.
The QCPD conducted 30 raids against video karera, cara y cruz (16), card games (11), tupada, (1) and loteng (4). Of the arrested suspects, 60 were involved in card games, 30 in cara y cruz, 12 in loteng, 8 in tupada and 1 in video karera.
The QCPD said cases for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 were filed against the suspects while the arrested minors were turned over to Social Services Development Department SSDD of Quezon City for proper disposition.
On Jan. 27, Belmonte ordered the QCPD to crack down on all forms of illegal gambling and arrest those behind it.
The lady Mayor also informed all 142 barangay captains of Quezon City regarding the strict implementation of the city ordinance against illegal gambling and instructed them to closely monitor and report any gambling operation in their respective areas.
She also encouraged local residents to call the city’s Hotline 122 and QCPD’s hotline 09175410621 to report any information on illegal gambling.
