QC eyes greater participation of NGOs in governance
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has ordered the creation of the Committee on Accreditation, Selection, and Monitoring of People’s and Non-Governmental Organizations to encourage greater participation of people’s organizations in city affairs.
Executive Order No. 4 states that the committee is in charge of promotion and mobilization of people’s and non-government organizations’ participation in city governance.
The committee is also in charge of coming up with plans, policies, and programs to effectively ensure people’s participation in Local Special Bodies.
Facilitating and monitoring the accreditation and election of organizations in the LSBs is also a function of the committee, according to the executive order.
The chairperson and vice chairperson of the Quezon City Council committee on public affairs, information, and people’s participation will lead the new committee.
Members of the committee will include representatives from the Office of the Mayor and the Office of the Vice Mayor, the Secretary of the City Council, the Officer-in-Charge of the Barangay Community Relations Department, the City Planning and Development Officer, the President of the Liga ng mga Barangay, and the City Director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
