To ease traffic congestion and maximize the carrying capacity of roads in Quezon City’s southernmost barangay, Mayor Herbert Bautista on Friday approved an ordinance ordering an “alternating one-side parking” policy on all streets within First Green Meadows Subdivision in Barangay Ugong Norte.

Authored by Councilors Franz Pumaren, Godofredo Liban II, and Alexis Herrera, City Ordinance 2833-2019 states that the alternate one-side parking policy shall be enforced round-the-clock effective immediately.

Ugong Norte’s Sangguniang Barangay, for its part, passed Resolution No. 116, S-2018, in support of the new parking policy.

Despite existing parking policies for privately owned and commercially operated parking spaces, many vehicle owners park in spaces that frequently affect vehicular traffic in the area, according to the ordinance.

The one-sided parking policy allows vehicles with odd numbers as the last digit of their plates to park on the left side of the streets, from the first to the fifteenth of the month.

Vehicles with even numbers as the last digit of their plates, on the other hand, are allowed to park on the right side of the streets from the sixteenth to the last day of the month.
