DILG lauds QC’s initiative for road clearing
A top official of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) lauded the Quezon City government for its achievements on the first week of the 60-day period given to local government units to clear the roads and sidewalks in Metro Manila.
Local Government Undersecretary Bernardo Florece Jr. cited the clearing operations made by the city government even before Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address adding that local government units should prioritize clearing government structures that are obstructing the sidewalks.
“Silently, Quezon City has been doing its work even before the SONA,” Florece said.
Mayor Joy Belmonte instructed the Department of Public Order and Safety, Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department, and the Market Development and Administration Department to conduct their clearing and cleaning operations in their respective areas since the start of her administration.
Throughout the review, Assistant City Administrator for Operations Alberto Kimpo presented the city’s initial assessment and identified 22 areas of concern.
During the past week, Mayor Joy Belmonte has been busy conducting dialogues with barangay officials including market and sidewalk vendors who are going to be directly affected by the clearing operations.
Belmonte asked the vendors to clear their own merchandise and avoid getting confiscated by the authorities.
Task Force 60, which is comprised of different departments in Quezon City, was formed to specifically address the concerns raised by President Duterte during his SONA.
