The conduct of elections in Metro Manila on Monday was generally peaceful and orderly, the National Capital Region Police Office said.

NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said that their long preparation for the midterm elections had paid off.

“No untoward incident was reported, and it’s peaceful so far. I think it is because of our coordination with the Commission on Elections and other concerned government agencies,” Eleazar said.

In police operations during the elections, authorities arrested 135 persons for alleged vote-buying activities.

Eleazar said P518,000 in cash was confiscated from the suspects – 60 in Makati City and 54 in Quezon City. The suspects are facing charges for violation of the Omnibus Election Code.

The NCRPO chief said 403 individuals had been also arrested for violating the liquor ban which started on Sunday and will end Tuesday, May 14.
