7 Metro Manila cops fail drug test

account_balanceMetro chat_bubble_outline0 Comments

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said seven cops assigned in Metro Manila tested positive for illegal drug use.

NCRPO director Police Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas said this was the result of the random drug tests conducted on around 6,000 NCRPO personnel, which started when he first assumed office on Oct. 16, 2019.

Sinas said one of the seven cops was included in the watchlist of the Philippine National Police (PNP) which also implicated Lt. Col. Jovie Espenido.

“There’s one [that’s on the watchlist], he tested positive for the use of ‘shabu’ (crystal meth),” Sinas said.

The watchlist, recently bared by PNP Chief Police Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa, includes 357 police officials who are being investigated for their alleged involvement in illegal drug activities.

Sinas identified one of the metro police’s own in the watchlist as Staff Sergeant Ronald Carpio, assigned to the Parañaque City Police.

He said there will be no let-up in the NCRPO’s internal cleansing campaign even as they continue the drug war in the streets of Metro Manila against civilian suspects.

Sinas said he is up to the task of ridding the ranks of bad eggs although in total, 31 NCRPO personnel are included in the PNP’s drugs watchlist.

Of these, 22 have already been subjected to the adjudication process while nine others have gone AWOL (absent without official leave).
