National Capital Region Police Office director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Thursday received awards on behalf of his late father, who was a World War II veteran.
Eleazar received the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, and Posthumous Award for Staff Sergeant Victor Eleazar during the sunset ceremony Thursday night that marked the closing of Philippine Veterans Week, which had the theme Sakripisyo ng Beterano ay Gunitain, Gawing Tanglaw ng Kabataan Tungo sa Kaunlaran, held at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.
The chief of the Metro Manila police thanked the Veterans Federation of the Philippines for recognizing the heroism, selflessness, and sacrifices of his father, who encouraged him to join the Philippine Military Academy.
The late patriot, known as Tatay Toti, was born on May 11, 1927.
Tatay Toti joined the guerrilla movement at the young age of 15. His role was to collect supplies or raise funds to buy supplies for the veterans in the front lines.
