Pasig housing project to prioritize residents in ‘danger zones’

Pasig City will prioritize informal settler residents living within “danger zones” for the city’s socialized housing project, Mayor Vico Sotto said.

The mayor recently unveiled the proposed design for Pasig’s Socialized Housing Project on his social media pages, saying the local government seeks to provide safe and dignified housing where residents will have the chance to improve their lives.

“The priority for our soon-to-rise socialized housing sites will be those who are now living in danger zones. For example, those living near the floodway,” he said.

“Magiging makatarungan ang gagawin nating sistema para sa pabahay. Walang palakasan sa pagpili ng benepisyaryo (Our housing system would be fair. There will be no political patronage in selecting the beneficiaries),” he added.

In his hour-long State of the City Address on Thursday (July 2), Sotto vowed there will be no demolition as long as there is no suitable area to relocate the residents.

He explained that a relocation site must have access to electricity, water services, schools, healthcare services, and livelihood.

“Hindi ko po pinangako sa mamamayan ng Pasig na bawat isang Pasigueño ay mabibigyan ng pabahay ng pamahalaan. Sa ngayon hindi pa po posible ‘yun (I did not promise the people of Pasig that every Pasigueño will be provided with government housing. Right now it’s not possible),” Sotto said.

“Pero ang pinangako ko po sa taong bayan, walang relokasyon, walang demolition hangga’t hindi maayos ang paglilipatan (But I promised the people, no relocation, no demolition until there is a proper site to relocate them),” he added.
