Pasig tests new traffic scheme around Mega Market
Pasig City held a dry run of a new traffic scheme around Pasig Mega Market.
Based on a map shared by Mayor Vico Sotto, jeepneys plying Eastern Rizal, Quiapo, and Bagong Bayan routes may now load and unload their passengers on designated spots along San Agustin Street.
For UV Express, taxis, private vehicles, and jeepneys plying Ugong/Crossing route, they may now load and unload passengers on designated zones along Market Avenue.
Meanwhile, loading and unloading zones have been also designated along Caruncho Avenue for jeepneys plying the Marikina route.
Loading and unloading zones for UV Express and taxis have also been designated along Urbano Velasco Street.
For tricycles, loading and unloading zones have also been identified around Pasig Mega Market.
Sotto said the first day of the dry run for the new traffic scheme and the system for the loading and unloading of passengers went “smoothly.”
“Maayos ang pila; hindi na umaabot sa gitna ng kalsada (The queue of passengers were organized and it did not reach the middle of the road),” he said in a social media post.
According to Sotto, the new traffic scheme at Pasig Mega Market seeks to reduce traffic congestion along the city’s street corners and intersections.
The mayor said the scheme also aims to lessen the waiting time of passengers for available public utility vehicles.
The Pasig government, Sotto noted, is open for suggestions to further improve the newly introduced system of loading and unloading at the city’s market area.
The dry run for the new traffic scheme will be in effect until February 9. It will be fully implemented on February 10, he said.
