Pasig City prepared numerous activities on June 27 to kick off its week-long celebration of the 449th anniversary of Pasig City on July 2, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

During Monday morning’s weekly flag-raising ceremony, the Pasig City local government recognized various Pasigueño athletes who represented the country and the city in national and international tournaments and competitions this year.

These include the four bronze, four silver, and three gold medalists who competed in the 2022 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Athletes under the sports development program, who participated in tournaments from January to June 2022, were also noted for their exemplary performances in the fields of archery, athletics, baseball, chess, and fencing among others.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto vowed to continue the local government’s support for its local teams and athletes, as well as the continuation of its sports program.

Aspiring six to 14 year-old athletes were also encouraged to join the Summer Sports Clinic which will be conducted on July 11 until August 25. The registration period began on June 20 and will end on July 8.

After the ceremony, the Food Festival at the Pasig City Quadrangle in front of the city hall was formally opened.

Citizens and visitors alike may enjoy the local meals and delicacies prepared by local organizations, communities and groups.

Among the food offered are local variants of maruya, turon, biko, puto, and suman, locally-sourced honey, and sweet corn.

Packed meals such as sinantolan and dinuguan, as well as freshly served lugaw may also be bought from the stalls.

The food festival is open from Monday, June 27 until Sunday, July 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A roving exhibit featuring the city’s Outstanding Pasigueños was opened on the same day as a tribute to those who helped the city’s progress and gain its renown.

A tradition that began in 1994, the city embarks on a yearly search for outstanding individuals in Pasig City whose contributions serve as inspirations to future generations of Pasigueños.

It is currently situated at the Pasig City Hall from June 27 to July 1.

From July 4 to 7, visitors may view the exhibit at the Manggahan Annex of the Ayala 30th Mall.

The exhibit will be housed by the Pasig Museum on July 8.

Various LGBTQ groups and allies also held a Pride March on Monday at 4 p.m. in celebration of Pride Month.

Other activities that have been announced include:

  • Pasig City Civic Parade on Friday, July 1 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. (starting from Sta. Clara de Montefalco Church to the Pasig City Quadrangle).
  • “Indak ng Pag-asa”: Inter-barangay dance competition on June 28 and 29 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the city quadrangle.
  • Kabataang Pasighenyo Quiz Bee on Thursday, June 30 on 5 p.m. at the sixth floor of the Banquet Hall of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) HRM Building.
