The Department of Public Works and Highways on Friday reported the completion of the total replacement of Tripa de Gallina Bridge on Buendia Avenue in Pasay City.

Ador Canlas, director of DPWH-National Capital Region, said the P23.2-million reconstruction and strengthening project on the bridge was completed in May 2019.

The project, which aimed to make the bridge withstand strong earthquakes, began in March 2018.

“We are glad to announce that the newly replaced Tripa de Gallina Bridge can handle ground acceleration ranging from magnitude 7 to magnitude 8,” Canlas said.

In 2018, a DPWH bridge management system inventory identified Tripa de Gallina as one of the weakest bridges in Metro Manila.

The DPWH recommended the total replacement of the four-lane bridge, which began showing extreme wear and tear from about 50 years of service.
