Parañaque asks establishments to pay taxes

Paranaque City reminded business owners in the city they have until the end of July to pay taxes and other fees.

Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the deadline of payment of business taxes was supposedly last April 20 but they decided to extend it to help local entrepreneurs who suffered from severe disruption of economic activities brought about by the coronavirus disease crisis.

Since it was extended for three months, Olivarez they were hoping that all business owners in the city could already pay their business tax on July 31 without penalties and surcharges.

“As a result of the extension, no interest, surcharge or any form of penalty shall be applied on any business tax, fee or charge accruing on or due and demandable during the extension period,“ Olivarez said.

This covers all types of registered businesses, whether single proprietorships, partnerships, corporations or cooperatives.

Businesses should be aware that the basis of the local business tax is gross sales/receipts of the preceding year.

Business Permit and License Office chief Melanie Soriano-Malaya said the provided date would no longer be extended again even if their office and other offices were temporarily closed last Monday to Wednesday to give way to containment and disinfection activities.

Malaya said businesses that "fail to renew their business permit are, technically, not allowed to operate within the city."

However, it is easier this time for businessmen to pay their tax and other obligations without going to city hall only by applying the newly-launched “all-in-one” technology-enabled delivery service for the pick-up, processing, and delivery of permits and licenses.

“Amid the general community quarantine, we are encouraging our local businessmen to stay home and let our courier company partner do the work,” said Malaya, adding the city government was doubling its efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
