Navotas celebrates Linggo ng Kabataan
The Navotas City government celebrated Linggo ng Kabataan on August 12-16, 2019 through a series of activities dedicated to the Navoteño youth.
Some 54 students from public and private secondary schools in the city were given the opportunity to stand as city officials and department heads for a week.
Mayor Toby Tiangco challenged young Navoteños to be effective leaders and good role models to their fellow youth.
“Your stint as youth officials only lasted a few days but it is my sincere hope that the lessons you have learned in the process will stay with you for a long time,” he said.
“Make use of your experiences and do your best to improve yourselves. Take advantage of the knowledge you have gained and strive to become more effective youth leaders,” he added.
Congressman John Reynald Tiangco, on the other hand, talked about the value of undertaking simple work.
“Put importance on every little task given to you. Simple work teaches discipline and patience, and it promotes creativity and ingenuity. These values will pave the way to your success,” he said.
He also advised them to continue serving Navoteños to the best of their capabilities.
“Not everyone is given the privilege to help and uplift the lives of their fellowmen,” he noted.
Activities conducted during the weeklong celebration included Pure Love Education Advocacy Seminar, Spoken Word Poetry Competition, Inter-school Dance Drama Competition, and Laro ng Lahi.
Linggo ng Kabataan is an annual program of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation and the Navotas City Council for Youth Development. It aims to raise the awareness and participation of the youth in cultural, social and legal issues in the community.
