Navotas Covid positivity rate falls to 5%

Navotas has reached the World Health Organization's five percent threshold for positivity rate.

The City Health Office recorded 72 new cases out of 1,458 tests conducted from September 27 to October 3, 2020.

"A low positivity rate suggests that there are fewer people in Navotas getting infected with the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). Out of 100 tested, only five turned out positive," explained Mayor Toby Tiangco.

"While we are relieved that our COVID situation is not as dire as before, we should continue to be careful and vigilant. Our numbers could still skyrocket any time, especially if we disregard safety measures." he added.

Tiangco noted that the city recorded a staggering 54% positivity rate in the week of May 17-23.

It also logged 920 new cases in August 2-8, a week after Navotas imposed a 14-day citywide lockdown and started conducting massive community testing.

"Let those harrowing weeks serve as our lesson and warning. Lives are at stake. We cannot let our guard down," he said.

"We need to continue our strategy of intensified community testing, contact tracing and isolation and treatment. We should aim to reach and sustain a three percent positivity rate for two weeks," he added.

As of October 5, Navotas has 165 active cases, 141 deaths and 4,639 recoveries.
