The local government of Muntinlupa has announced the pre-registration of adolescents aged 12 to 17 years old for vaccination following the issuance of an emergency use authorization (EUA) of a COVID-19 vaccine for children.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi urged parents and guardians to register their children to the Muntinlupa City COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac) as protection from the adverse effect of COVID-19. Fresnedi said the pre-registration aims to create a database of the adolescents’ group eligible for COVID-19 vaccines in preparation for the final guidelines from the Department of Health.

Muntinlupa residents under this age group may pre-register online through the city’s COVID-19 vaccination registration system www.vaccine.muntinlupacity.gov.ph/muncovac and choose the category “C – Rest of Population.”

Last September 3, Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director General Eric Domingo said an EUA had been granted to the US-made vaccine Moderna for use on the 12 to 17 age group.

Domingo said in a Laging Handa briefing that with the alarming surge in cases and fast community transmission of the highly infectious Delta variant, experts have found that the benefits of the vaccine “outweighs the risk”. The FDA director noted that Moderna has applied for full approval with the US FDA and results are expected to be released within the month.

Recently, MunCoVac has announced that the city already administered a total of 507,964 vaccines and has inoculated nearly half of the target population as of September 8.

MunCoVac posted in its Facebook page that 49.9% of the target residents have been fully vaccinated, “only a 0.1% shy to being halfway towards achieving herd immunity.” This translates to 192,360 individuals to have received the required total number of doses.

Further, 319,963 individuals have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine or 83% of the target. Of the total number of individuals vaccinated, at least 11,404 (first dose) and 597 (second dose) were inoculated in Muntinlupa private companies.

The local government also advised residents who registered online but haven’t received their schedule to fill out a form to be scheduled: https://forms.gle/fEAELhwxURe4aNZU8.

As of September 13, Muntinlupa City has 23,336 confirmed cases with 20,264 recoveries, 2,583 active cases, 489 reported deaths, 0 suspect cases, and 3,754 probable cases.
