12,000 minors register for Muntinlupa vaccination
The local government of Muntinlupa has already pre-registered at least 12,000 minors aged 12 to 17 for vaccination against COVID-19.
As of October 4, a total of 12,096 12-17-year-olds have signed up in the Muntinlupa City COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac). The city started pre-registering minors for vaccination last September 14 in preparation for the eventual inoculation of adolescents.
By barangay, out of the 12,096, Putatan recorded the highest number of registrants with 2,114, followed by Poblacion, 1,618; Tunasan, 1,590; Alabang, 1,297; Cupang, 1,093; Sucat, 713; Bayanan, 652; Ayala Alabang, 547; and Buli, 199. Non-residents who registered totaled 2,273.
Last September 30, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases issued Resolution No. 141 approving the vaccination of the general public, including adolescents.
Under the IATF resolution, “the vaccination of the pediatric population (those between the ages of twelve and seventeen (12-17) years old) with vaccines granted Emergency Use Authorization by the Food and Drugs Administration shall be piloted under a phased approach as may be determined by the National Vaccination Operations Center beginning 16 October 2021.”
The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that pediatric vaccination will start among 12 to 17 year olds with comorbidities as part of Priority Group A3.
DOH Spokesperson and Undersecretary Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire said that children with co-morbidities will be vaccinated in selected sites with clearance from their pediatricians or trained doctors for the initial run.
“Eventually, as we get more local experience, we will be able to retool our current vaccinators on the additional precautionary steps on screening and vaccine administration,” Usec. Vergeire said.
Further, DOH Usec. Myrna Cabotaje noted that the government is aiming to start inoculating minors with comorbidities in Metro Manila in hospitals first. Cabotaje said it could expand to other regions after the first two weeks of the pilot implementation.
To date, Pfizer and Moderna are the only vaccines with emergency use authorization for 12 to 17 years old issued by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration.
Mayor Jaime Fresnedi urges parents and guardians to register their children to the Muntinlupa City COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac) as protection from the adverse effect of COVID-19. Fresnedi said the pre-registration aims to create a database of the adolescents’ group eligible for COVID-19 vaccines in preparation for the final guidelines from DOH.
Muntinlupa residents under this age group may pre-register online through the city’s COVID-19 vaccination registration system www.vaccine.muntinlupacity.gov.ph/muncovac and choose the category “C – Rest of Population.”
Meanwhile, at least 72 percent of Muntinlupa’s target population have already been fully vaccinated, translating to more than 600,000 vaccines administered.
MunCoVac reported that as of Oct. 1, the local government has administered a total of 606,098 vaccines. 332,517 individuals have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine or 86.2% of the target, while 277,940 individuals or 72% of the target have been fully vaccinated. Of the total number of vaccinated individuals, at least 13,075 (first dose) and 1,091 (second dose) were inoculated in Muntinlupa private companies.
The target population to be vaccinated in Muntinlupa is 385,725 individuals or 70% of 551,036 Muntinlupa’s estimated population for 2020.
