Muntinlupa builds wheelchair lifter at city hall for PWDs, elderly
As part of its initiative to become an inclusive government, the Muntinlupa City government has installed a wheelchair lifter for persons with disabilities and the elderly at city hall.
Mayor Jaime Fresnedi led the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday of the inclined platform lift, a P2.3-million Gender and Development funded project that aimed to improve accessibility and mobility of PWDs and senior citizens in the two-story main building of city hall.
The lift can carry an individual with wheelchair up and down the main stairs located at the center of the building by traveling along a rail system installed alongside the stairs. It runs on two polished stainless steel tubes, which are fixed to the inner side of the stairwell.
The wheelchair lifter is compliant to European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and EN81-40. The weight limit of the lift is pegged at 300 kilograms.
Recently, a passenger elevator was also inaugurated at the annex building of Muntinlupa City Hall. The P4.6-million elevator is set to serve PWDs and the elderly transacting with government offices situated in the five-story building.
Fresnedi said he hoped the construction of the facilities, along with other infrastructure developments, would establish Muntinlupa City Hall as PWD and Senior Citizen-Friendly.
The Fresnedi administration is a staunch advocate of PWD and vulnerable sectors’ rights. Muntinlupa City is one of the pioneer LGUs to create a local PWD Affairs Office in accordance with the Magna Carta for Persons with Disability.
