Muntinlupa ready to distribute food up to four months
Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said the city government is prepared to provide food assistance to city residents for at least three to four months amid the enhanced community quarantine.
Fresnedi assured the public that the City Government has adequate supply of basic commodities for distribution to indigent residents and daily earners affected by the disruption of work.
“The local government has a disaster preparedness plan and is equipped to respond to the public’s needs during this health emergency. Our distribution will not be a one-time event but will be continuous,” he noted.
The local exec leads the initial distribution of 1,500 grocery packs to Barangay Poblacion. The Muntinlupa City Government targets to provide 8,000 grocery packs per barangay. On Thursday, Fresnedi also ordered the early release of Muntinlupa City Hall employees’ end of month salary to help them tide over COVID-19 crisis.
Barangays in Muntinlupa City are now implementing tougher quarantine measures including the closure of its borders following the rise in reported cases of COVID-19 in the city.
As of March 19, Muntinlupa CHO recorded 96 Persons Under Monitoring (PUM), 45 Persons Under Investigation (PUI), and three confirmed cases in the city.
Local chairmen agreed to coordinate with their counterparts for the closure of their respective inter-barangay borders along Baybayin to prevent the movement of people across the barangays.
Mayor Jaime Fresnedi ordered barangays chiefs to strengthen lockdown measures and patrolling of residents who are still going out of their homes amid the ongoing enhanced community quarantine.
Further, a posh village in Muntinlupa City is on a lockdown after two residents tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) according to Muntinlupa City Health Office.
Muntinlupa CHO chief Dra. Teresa Tuliao said the local health office recommended the lockdown of the subdivision in Barangay Cupang until further notice following the confirmation that two homeowners contracted the virus.
“We are taking precautionary measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the area especially that the confirmed cases lived in close proximity to one another. The CHO is coordinating with PNP to facilitate this stringent measure,” Tuliao noted.
Public transportation has been suspended in the village and authorities urged the residents to observe strict home quarantine. A no-contact policy is being implemented for online delivery of food and grocery items.
The Muntinlupa City Government also launched its disinfection drive through the Muntinlupa City Disaster Risk Reduction Office and BFP Muntinlupa starting in Alabang Viaduct, Starmall Terminal, City Terminal, South Station Terminal, and Alabang Public Market last Friday.
Triage areas and quarantine rooms are now installed in Ospital ng Muntinlupa and barangays to accommodate patients residents suspected to have contracted with the virus for monitoring by the local health office.
