South provincial buses join MMDA’s dry run of bus ban on EDSA
Only 24 buses serving Southern Luzon participated in the dry run of the provincial bus ban on EDSA on August 7.
Despite a restraining order issued by a Quezon City court, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) pushed through with the dry run on voluntary basis, with only the south provincial buses participating.
According to MMDA EDSA Traffic Chief, Bon Nebrija three bus companies with 24 buses participated in the dry run.
“So far the numbers that we got were three companies and 24 busses. The ones that participated were DLTB company, Philtranco, and Amihan,” Nebrija said on his interview with CNN.
Nebrija said the low turnout came even after all the bus operators agreed to voluntarily participate in the dry run.
Nebrija also mentioned they will discontinue the dry run within the day if they do not get the numbers that they needed.
“There is really no use to continue with them if we did not get the number of busses that we need to asses,” traffic chief said.
Meanwhile, they were still waiting for the decision of MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia if they will still continue the dry run.
“We might not get the numbers that we needed for this dry run. So we are just waiting for the decision of GM Jojo Garcia if we may still continue this until the afternoon or just cut off.”
