Sevilla Bridge to be closed for Skyway Stage 3 construction
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced the closure of G. Araneta Avenue extension during the weekend and the Sevilla Bridge next week to give way to the construction of the Skyway Stage 3 (SS3).
In a document sent by MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago, the road from San Juan River to G. Araneta Avenue near SM Santa Mesa will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on September 21- 22.
During the closure, the MMDA said SS3 project contractor Citra Central Expressway Corp. (Citra) will install girders necessary for the completion of the elevated tollway meant to connect the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).
Affected motorists were advised to take the following alternative routes: From N. Domingo Street to G. Araneta Avenue and R. Magsaysay Boulevard, take F. Roman Street, H. Lozada Street, or J. Ruiz Street, and turn left at Aurora Boulevard to destination.
Motorists from R. Magsaysay Boulevard and G. Araneta Avenue to N. Domingo Street were advised to take Aurora Boulevard, turn right at A. Luna Street or right at A. Lake Street, and turn right or left at N. Domingo Street to destination.
Pialago also relayed an announcement from Citra on the closure of the Sevilla Bridge from 10 p.m. on September 28 until 7 a.m. on September 29 to give way to the transfer of barges with heavy equipment.
The SS3 is an 18.83-km. elevated expressway from the SLEX in Buendia Ave., Makati City to NLEX in Balintawak, Quezon City.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the project’s mainline will be completed by the first quarter of 2020 and its ramps by December of the same year.
Once built, the SS3 is expected to decongest Edsa and other major roads by about 55,000 vehicles daily and reduce travel time from Buendia to Balintawak from two hours to less than 20 minutes.
