The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said it is monitoring the selling, advertising and promotion of cigarettes and other tobacco products within a 100-meter perimeter of schools in Metro Manila.

This after the agency backed the President’s pronouncement to ban the use of e-cigarettes in public places and the importation of vaping devices.

“We will help make sure that no vape shops are established within 100 perimeters of public and private schools in the metropolis,” Dr. Loida Alzona, Director of the MMDA Health and Environmental Protection Office (HEPO) stressed.

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim encouraged the public to adhere to the President’s order since this move was aimed at protecting public health.

“I agree with the statement of the President that vaping poses harmful effects to human health. Hence, I support the regulation of vaping for the sake of the general public,” Lim said.

He also lauded the efforts of local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila in strictly imposing measures on the use of vaping products.
