MMDA to close EDSA U-turn slots
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said it plans to close 15 U-turn slots along EDSA to make way for the new bus lane.
“We are now reviewing the possible closure of 15 U-turn slots along EDSA to efficiently serve the riding public. The bus riders will benefit from this,” Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago, MMDA spokesperson said.
“The barriers for the new bus lane that we will install will really close the U-turn slots along EDSA,” Pialago added.
Once the U-turn slots are closed, travel time of buses will reportedly be faster.
“Our main consideration are the commuters. We want to efficiently serve them that is why we are eyeing to close the 15 U-turn slots that disrupts the flow of buses on EDSA,” she stressed.
In a list obtained by Manila Bulletin, the U-turn slots being eyed to be closed are the following:
Quezon City Academy
Timog (inner lane from Q-mart to southbound)
Santolan (inner lane from northbound to southbound)
Pialago said that the left turn ramps may also be affected should the plan of the agency push through. These are: EDSA Ortigas to Greenhills, EDSA Ortigas to Meralco, and EDSA to Rockwell.
The MMDA is still completing concrete barriers for the new bus lane at the left side of the whole stretch of EDSA to separate buses from private vehicles.
Pialago said they are at least 50 percent done in installing the concrete barriers on EDSA.
The agency recently installed additional hazard markers on top of concrete barriers to give motorists better visibility while traversing EDSA.
