Bicycle riders asked to use secondary roads

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) asked bicycle riders to use secondary roads for their safety.

It made the advisory amid the lack of infrastructure for bicycle lanes, especially for main roads such as EDSA.

"Kung walang bike lane 'wag muna natin padaanin 'yung mga bisikleta lalong-lalo na sa mga major thoroughfares, napakadelikado. Isa lang maaksidente diyan, sayang, no, sayang," General Manager Jojo Garcia said.

"Ine-enganyo natin 'yung pagba-bike, pagbibisikleta, pero siguro doon muna sila sa mga secondary road," he added.

In accordance with social distancing protocols, bicycles will become a part of the new normal in transportation.

The Department of Transportation is eyeing to use the Mabuhay Lane on EDSA and other portions of Metro Manila as exclusive bicycle lanes.

However, this will be reliant on the compliance of bikers.

"Pag tayo nagkaroon ng bike lane, exclusive bike lane, of course may enforcement din 'yan. Kapag pumarada ka diyan, huhulihin ka," Garcia said.
