With the digital platform gaining ground on children's activities, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has partnered with groups to hold a webinar for parents to promote online safety, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.

Along with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, SaferKidsPH, and member agencies of the Inter-Agency Council Against Child Pornography (IACACP), the DSWD will conduct the webinar on Wednesday and Friday (Sept. 22 and 24, 2021).

The “Digital Safety and Wellbeing of Parents and Children: Child Online Safeguarding and Mental Wellness in Time of Pandemic” will highlight the salient features of the Child Online Safeguarding Policy (COSP), which provides guidelines, mechanisms, and standards for the protection of children from all harms on the internet such as child pornography, online gambling, and all forms of online abuse and sexual exploitation.

In a statement on Tuesday, the DSWD said the webinar will promote collaboration among internet service providers, telecommunications companies, and child online protection advocates regarding their roles and responsibilities as mandated in the COSP.

"Expected participants of the online activity include grade school and junior high school students from public and private schools, teachers, youth group representatives, parents, and representatives from IACACP agencies and partners," the statement read.

The agency envisions that through the webinar, "children, parents, and the whole society will become united in protecting children from the dangers of navigating the internet without proper supervision".
