Meralco power rates decline in September
The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said power rates would go down by P0.52 per kilowatt-hour in September.
From P9.56 per kWh in August, the average power cost will decrease to P9.04 per kWh.
This is more than half of the projection released by Meralco of P0.15 to P0.20 per kilowatt-hour power rate cut.
If a family would consume 200 kilowatt-hours per month, they can save P105 pesos this month compared in August.
According to Meralco, the overall generation charge this month went down by P0.44 where P0.24 is the net settlement surplus ordered by the Energy Regulatory Board (ERC) last August 1.
“As far as overall electricity rates are concerned mula February 2018 this is already the lowest,” according to Meralco Spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga.
Sufficient power supply also contributed to the decline of generation charge from power plants.
“Wala tayong instances ng red and yellow alerts unlike in the past (We don’t have instances of red and yellow alerts unlike in the past),” Zaldarriaga said.
This is the fifth consecutive month of power rate decline. However, Meralco still advises consumers to save electricity.
