Manila Water installs more line boosters for elevated areas

Manila Water installs more line boosters for elevated areas

Manila Water has completed the installation of 64 line boosters across the East Zone to further increase water availability to the current 98 percent of its customer base that are now receiving water supply for at least eight hours a day at ground floor level.

The line boosters are among the technical solutions to extend water supply to elevated areas and those farthest from distribution facilities.

Line boosters are pumps installed on pipelines to increase pressure in order to pushy water to the challenging areas located at higher elevations and convey water where it is needed.

To date, 23 line boosters have been installed in Quezon City, nine in Taguig, and three in Mandaluyong. In Rizal, 14 have been installed in Rodriguez, three each in San Mateo and Antipolo City, two in Binangonan, and one each in Taytay and Angono, and an additional three in Pasig City and Rizal.

More line boosters are scheduled for installation in the coming weeks at different locations in Quezon City and in Antipolo City, Binangonan, and Rodriguez in Rizal.

Other technical solutions that Manila Water is implementing to further increase water availability in the remaining pocket areas with intermittent water supply include valving and network adjustments, looping and interconnection of lines, and other after-the-meter rectifications.

As of May 8, Manila Water has been able to reduce the supply deficit from 150 million liters per day down to 54 million liters per day with the operation of the Cardona Water Treatment Plant, which delivers up to 50 MLD. Additional supply comes from rehabilitated deep wells that produce about 30 MLD and cross-border flows at 16 MLD.
