Chat feature in all Facebook groups will no longer be available beginning August 22.

According to Facebook they already removed the option to start a new chat in Facebook groups last August 16, while users will no longer be able to completely use the chat on August 22.

“On Thursday, August 22nd, existing chats in Facebook Groups will still be readable, but you will no longer be able to chat further,” according to their statement.

However, Facebook clarifies this does not include group chats in messengers.

“This change will not impact group chats in Messenger with your friends – only chats in your Facebook Group. You will still be able to start a group chat with anyone who you are friends with or are connected to in Messenger,” their statement further reads.

Facebook said removing the chat feature would limit spammers and unsolicited messages.

Meanwhile, the social media giant is already looking into alternatives for the Facebook Group chat but they did not disclose any further details.

“We are exploring new ways to support real-time communication for Groups, but don’t have any details to share about those future plans just yet,” they said.
