DOTr lauded for approving motorcycle taxi operations

DOTr lauded for approving motorcycle taxi operations

Makati City Rep. Luis Campos Jr. on Friday welcomed the Department of Transportation’s decision to allow the operations of motorcycle taxis, saying this would help wipeout extortion on the road.

“This will eradicate the daily and nearly systematic shakedown of motorcycle taxi drivers by crooked agents of the law,” Campos said.

Campos’ statement came at the heels of the DOTr approval of a six-month test run of motorcycle taxi operations starting the first week of June.

Campos has authored a bill authorizing the operations of motorcycle taxis.

The bill seeks to amend the 55-year-old Land Transportation and Traffic Code that forbids the use of motorcycles-for-hire to convey both passengers and freight.

“We are counting on the next Congress to enact our bill, hopefully before the DOTr’s six-month trial run expires,” Campos said.
