NLEX opens Balagtas northbound lane

Travel time to North and Central Luzon will now be reduced by around 30 minutes as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), led by Secretary Mark Villar, formally opened on Tuesday the new 600-meter North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Balagtas northbound lane entry in the province of Bulacan.

The new gateway, which is a joint project of the DPWH and NLEX Corporation, will now provide direct access to motorists coming from Balagtas Interchange going to NLEX northbound, bypassing local roads and the Sta. Rita Interchange in Guiguinto, Bulacan.

Villar said around 2,000 motorists will benefit from the project that has an estimated cost of P50 million.

“The completion of the Plaridel Bypass Balagtas NLEX northbound entry will spare motorists coming from Plaridel, Bustos, Balagtas and neighboring municipalities from the traffic congestion in the Sta. Rita section,” he said.

Villar added that the re-routing of vehicles will prevent the traffic build-up by 30 percent and hasten travel time by 50 percent going to Pampanga.

He emphasized that this was also part of the government’s road network improvement plan aiming to ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila and other key point areas of the NLEX-SCTEX (Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway) network.
