Manila Water augments supply using deep wells

Manila Water has started operating an additional 34 deep wells in its concession area to supplement its supply and delivery to consumers by about 43 million liters of water per day.

Prior to the reactivation of these deep wells, Manila Water was able to source more than nine million liters of water per day from five deep wells in Curayao in Rodriguez, Rizal.

At present, Manila Water is operating 19 deep wells in Rizal province – nine of which are in Antipolo City – that collectively yield about 25 MLD.

In Metro Manila, the concessionaire rehabilitated two deep wells in Taguig City that were expected to add up to nine MLD to the supply.

New deep wells are being constructed in different locations across Manila Water’s service area in Metro Manila. These are expected to push water production up by about 40 MLD.

Jeric T. Sevilla, corporate strategic affairs group head of Manila Water, said these deep wells were necessary to meet the demands of customers while new water sources were being completed.

“The operation of these deep wells is vital to recovering our service towards 24/7 supply at 7 psi or pressure up to the ground level as one of the means of augmenting the water supply deficit,” Sevilla said.

As of June 9, 2019, supply gap is still at 31 MLD despite water availability reaching 99.72 percent of East Zone customers receiving eight hours or more of water service within the regulatory standard of 7 psi (pound per square inch) of pressure, reaching up to the ground floor.
