Fake facemasks proliferate

A mask manufacturer warned the public against the proliferation of fake masks that are being peddled in bazaars and online marketplaces, according to a report by Manila Times.

In a statement, CopperMaskPH said it received complaints that some establishments in Divisoria, Manila and online shops were selling CopperMask imitations, which bore a resemblance to the original.

The company said the fake mask had a different texture and color tone.

It added that it had stopped manufacturing the mask’s first version, which came in a white box.

The company said fake CopperMasks were being sold way below the suggested retail price.

It added that the fake CopperMask items had little or no infused copper strands, which is the main material used in the original masks.

This means that their natural disinfecting capabilities were absent, which would affect the mask’s ability to stop deadly pathogens.

Fake masks also have a different color tone from the original light copper finish and the fonts on its stickers are different.

CopperMask said that the NBI is investigating the matter and has assured the public that it would “arrest individuals found selling fake CopperMask and will be prosecuted in the court of law.”

The mask, which is known not only for its effectiveness in stopping the spread of bacteria and viruses, but its fashionable design, were used by celebrities and prominent public figures, making it a trend on social media.
