Water level in Marikina River ‘manageable’
The water level in Marikina River climbed to 11.8 meters as of 5:40 p.m. as of May 15, as Typhoon “Ambo” brought heavy rains to Metro Manila.
Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said the water level in the river increased by about one meter after just an hour of the heavy rainfall brought by the typhoon.
According to the mayor, the water level is still “manageable,” and far from the 15-meter mark which would trigger the first alarm.

“Mayor Marcy is now closely monitoring on the ground to ensure the safety of his constituents,” the local government said.
The mayor has also ordered that all the gates of the Manggahan Floodway be opened to avoid a further increase in water level.
Rescue personnel are also now on alert and deployed in strategic locations in the city, he added.
Amid the threat of COVID-19, Teodoro said a new set of protocols will be implemented in evacuation centers in case residents will be evacuated.
The mayor said the protocols will center on the strict observance of social distancing and safety health measures to avoid the further spread of the disease.
