Marikina City will procure 3,000 test kits after registering five confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Marikina Mayor Marcelino “Marcy’Teodoro said  the COVID-19 test kits that they will purchase were developed by the scientists of the UP National Institutes of Health, which was approved by Food and Drug Administration Director Eric Domingo.

“As part of our aggressive measures against COVID-19, I have ordered for the procurement of 3,000 testing kits for the disease after talks with Director Eric Domingo of FDA,” Mayor Marcy said.

According to him, it is vital to quickly test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 so that contract tracing will be immediately conducted to contain and prevent the spread of the disease should a resident test positive for the disease.

“We already ordered testing kits yesterday. It is very important to test those exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

The four new cases of COVID-19 in Marikina all came from one household as they were infected by the 86-year-old man, the first case recorded in the city, Mayor Marcy disclosed.
