The city government of Marikina has invited Davao City to join the Rehiyon-Rehiyon Festival in December 2019.

“I am also extending my invitation to Davao City. We also have a festival similar to this kind... what we call ‘Rehiyon-Rehiyon’ Festival,” Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said in his speech during the Kadayawan Festival over the weekend, in the presence of Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte and city councilors.

“We in Marikina, an urbanized city, 70 percent of our residents are already migrants—from other provinces or regions. We celebrate life together as a community in Marikina. Sana makarating din kayo sa (I hope you will also visit) Marikina,” he added.

Rehiyon-Rehiyon Festival is a lively festival that pays tribute to the migrants who have chosen to stay in Marikina and significantly contributed to its progress.

A carnival-like atmosphere prevails in the air as the citizens of the city revel in street dancing and production numbers such as folk dances wearing magnificent costumes that also showcase the culture and heritage of Marikina.

It also commemorates the local government’s celebration of Marikina’s cityhood anniversary on December 8.

Teodoro commended the safe streets of Davao City, saying that he was able to roam around in the city while feeling peaceful and free from harm.

“Naggala ako, nag-suroy-suroy, sa maraming lugar (I roamed around places). Really, indeed, feeling ko safe na safe ako rito sa (I'm feeling so safe here in) Davao. Safe na safe ako at ang lahat kasama natin dito; nakikita ko ‘yon, nararamdaman ko. Maraming-maraming salamat (All of us, including my colleagues, are feeling safe here. I can see it and I can feel it. Thank you very much),” he said.

According to Teodoro, “indeed, life is here in Davao City! What we are seeing and experiencing right now, myself, personally, is a community—a community in a sense that people are coming together as one, having one aspiration, having one dream for our city.”

The mayor said that he felt really home in Davao.

“My experience here in Davao is really pleasant; ang pakiramdam ko ay taga-rito na ako. Hindi ako taga ibang lugar (I feel like I'm one of the locals. It's not like I am from another place),” he said.

The Marikina mayor thanked Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte for being an inspiration to all mayors of local government units (LGUs) to work efficiently for the good of all people.

“Kay (To) Mayor Sara Duterte, thank you very much! Not only for being a model to all of us in the LGU, but for being an inspiration to all of us, to work well, to strive for what is best for our people. Para sa tao ang lahat nang ito (This is all for the people),” he said.

On August 23, the Marikina Shoe Trade Fair store was officially opened at the Pasalubong Center in Davao City during the Kadayawan Festival.

Teodoro said this endeavor was made possible through Marikina City’s sisterhood pact with the hometown of President Rodrigo Duterte.
