Thirty-seven nursing graduates from the Pamantasan Lungsod ng Marikina passed the 2019 Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE).

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro was glad about the results, urging the new nurses to serve as an inspiration while being globally competitive.

"The best thing you could do is to pay it forward. When you pay it forward, it doesn't mean that you have something in terms of economic value, hindi naman ganoon (it's not like that). You can simply pay it forward by telling your stories to others who are also struggling so you can be an inspiration to them," Teodoro said in a statement on Friday.

The figure is out of 47 PLMar Nursing graduates who took the November 2019 NLE, having an overall performance of 74 percent.

Teodoro also urged the new nurses to give their best service.

“Tulungan niyo nang maigi ang pasyenteng inaalagaan niyo (help wholeheartedly the patients you are caring for),” he said.

Catherin Fabro, 36, who scored the highest among the 37 graduates, said they are very grateful for the great help given by the city government to them.

"We will do everything we can to give back to our less fortunate citymates and be an inspiration to all Marikeños,” Fabron, who is now a nurse at St. Luke's Medical Center, said in Filipino.

Madelene Aquino, PLMar College of Nursing dean, said all of the 37 NLE passers are now employed in various hospitals in Metro Manila.

Out of the 13, 816 takers, only 7,627 passed the November 2019 NLE, data showed. The national passing rate is 55.20 percent.

The result of the examination came out last Dec. 6, 2019.

In 2019, the city government has increased its budget for free college education, making it PHP200 million, from PHP130 million in 2018.
