2 cops recognized for heroic chase
Two policemen, who were caught on video doggedly chasing a suspected snatcher in a busy Manila street last week, were awarded for bravery.
No less than Philippine National Police chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde accorded the award to Patrolman Jonathan Stanley Dionisio during a ceremony at Camp Crame.
“What he did was really a commendable act. This is somehow a balancing act on our aggressive internal cleansing,” said Albayalde.
“As I would always say, I maybe quick to punish erring policemen but I also equally quick in giving awards to those who make the entire police force proud,” he said.
In an uploaded dashcam video that went viral on social media, Dionisio was seen chasing a snatcher later identified as Angelo Gallardo under the Lagusnilad in Manila.
The chase started when the rookie cops spotted Gallardo snatching the gold bracelet of a passenger jeepney at the Lagusnilad.
Gallardo was later apprehended with the help of another cop, Corporal Timothy John Cruz who was also awarded with the Medalya ng Papuri.
“I hope that what these two policemen did would inspire the entire police force into doing something that would.make.each and every policeman proud to wear their uniform,” said Albayalde.
