Bridge repair prompts closure of road for two years

in MMDA Balita / Manila by 415

A part of the Estrella Service Road will be closed to traffic for two years to give way for the repair of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, also known as the Rockwell Bridge, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

The portion of the service road from Gumamela Street to J.P. Rizal will be closed starting March 23, 2019, at 11 p.m. The other stretch of service road, going to Rockwell, will remain open to motorists.

Motorists coming from Edsa-Rockwell are advised to turn at Gumamela Street, left at Camia Street to J.P. Rizal to destination.

The MMDA will also clear roads and sidewalks  in the vicinity of Estrella Bridge and identified alternative routes, like Camia, Progreso, and Gumamela, MMDA general Manager Jose Arturo “Jojo” Garcia said.

“We want to utilize all roads in the vicinity,” Garcia added.

At least 500 vehicles per hour traverse each direction of the service road, according to the MMDA.

The Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, which connects Makati City and Mandaluyong City, has been closed to motorists since January 19 for its widening to four lanes from the current two lanes.

The Public Works Department estimates repairs on the bridge will be completed in 2021.
