Manila reports first COVID-19 fatality
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno announced the first coronavirus disease (COVID-19) death in the city which now has five confirmed cases of the viral illness.
In his live public address on Facebook, Moreno announced that the city’s first COVID-19 case, identified as Patient 12 in the Department of Health’s (DOH) list, died on Sunday evening.
“Siya po ay ‘yung unang-unang nakita or nagpositibo dito sa ating lungsod, mamamayan ng ating lungsod na taga Sampaloc, Manila na nasa pribadong ospital outside of Manila. As of 6:54 p.m. last night, PH 12 or Patient 12 expired already,” Moreno said.

“Ang inyong lingkod at sampu ng pamahalaang lungsod ay nakikiramay sa pamilya ni Patient 12 under the official list of Department of Health,” he added.
One of the two cases in Manila is a resident of Huertas, Sta. Cruz and identified by the DOH as Patient 125.
According to Moreno, Patient 125 regularly travels in and out of the country.
Meanwhile, the other new case, Patient 73 under DOH’s list, is a resident of Kahilom, Pandacan and also has a history of foreign travel, Moreno added.
The capital city has declared a state of calamity and has also imposed an 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew to prevent the spread of the respiratory disease.
