Manila acquires new firefighting equipment
The Manila City government has acquired new firefighting equipment worth P180 million.
“The new equipment can reach up a 160-foot (48-meter) building and respond immediately to help victims trapped inside buildings. I can contain fire in just several minutes because of high water pressure from firetrucks,” Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada said.
The new equipment is composed of a ladder truck, which cots P85 million, and a super tanker, which has a capacity of 10,000 liters of water and costs P38 million.
Estrada said Manila and Makati were the only cities in Metro Manila that had firefighting equipment that could reach 56 meters high.
The procurement of the equipment is part of the city government’s continuing commitment to modernize and enhance the capability of the Bureau of Fire Protection and other public safety services.
“These new fire trucks are imported from Austria, and can be used for 15 years,” Estrada said.
Apart from fire trucks, the city government also acquired three rescue trucks, three rescue towing vehicles, protective gear, and eight mobile kitchens that can be used during calamities.
