Isko to attend Moscow energy summit
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno will make his first foreign trip as the city's chief executive to Moscow, after Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Igor Khovaev invited him to an energy summit in October.
“I am convinced that Manila and Moscow have many common problems and an exchange of experiences would be very helpful,” the envoy said during his courtesy call on Moreno at the Manila City Hall on Tuesday.
Moreno said he would love to travel to Moscow to see if the nation’s capital could adopt Russia’s renewable energy program.
“I’d love to go. It is an opportunity for the people of Manila to learn something. We want to come up with ways on how we can generate reusable water,” he said.
Khovaev said the Mayor will meet local Russian officials to discuss local governance, traffic management and energy efficiency solutions.
“It’s time to go to Russia. You will see that we Russians and Filipinos have a lot in common,” he said.
After the courtesy call, Moreno gave the ambassador the key to the city while the ambassador gave the mayor a bottle of vodka.
The Mayor joked that he couldn’t drink the vodka because of inflammation in his teeth, but told the envoy it may help ease the pain.
