Isko orders inspection of Manila billboards
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno wants all billboard sites in capital inspected to ensure the safety of the public especially during typhoons.
“We are directing all billboard owners and operators in the city to be responsible enough to check on the safety of their operations, and not to pose hazards to the safety and lives of the public,” the Mayor said.
City Engineer Armand Andres said the order came after a billboard fell from a supermarket along Divisoria, Binondo, Manila on August 9. No one got hurt.
Andres said a defect was found in the frame that held the billboard, causing it to fall.
Upon learning of the incident, he said Moreno immediately ordered him to visit the area, investigate and find a permanent solution to avoid a repeat of the incident.
