Manila City Mayor Francisco 'Isko Moreno' Domagoso led the inauguration of the Manila City Library along Taft Avenue on October 12.

Domagoso underscored the importance of the role of libraries in molding young minds amid the recent advancements in technology across the world.

"Hindi pwedeng isantabi at baliwalain ang kahalagahan ng silid-aklatan," the Mayor said. "Kailangan natin patuloy na pagyamanin ang kaalaman ng publiko and the government should be providing opportunity for them."

The Mayor said that the local government will continue to strengthen its efforts to improve the Manila City Library despite the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manila City Library Director Mylene Villanueva expressed her gratitude to the Mayor for boosting the morale of her staffers, thanking him for recognizing the efforts of her staffers to improve the library.

"Kung makikita niyo lang Mayor ang mga ngiti ng mga staff ngayon dahil sa mga makabagong kagamitan na kanila ngayong ginagamit. Ngayon lang rin nangyari Mayor na ang aming Alkade ay bumibisita sa mga silid-aklatan na totoo pong tunay na nagpataas sa matagal na po nilang bagsak na moral sa matagal na panahon," Villanueva said.

Likewise, St. Mary’s Publishing President Vicente Catibijan donated P1 million worth of books to the Manila City Library during the inauguration. The donation was personally received by Mayor Domagoso and Vice Mayor Maria Shielah 'Honey' Lacuna-Pangan.
