‘Tourism Circuit’ to link heritage sites in Manila

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso on Monday said he would create a “tourism circuit” to serve as the heritage trail that linked the historic walled city of Intramuros to the National Museum, Rizal Park, Binondo, and other heritage sites in the capital.

This is part of the tourism development plans recently presented to Domagoso by Pocholo Paragas, chief operating officer of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, and Guiller Asido, head of the Intramuros Administration.

“In line with the reintegration of the Manila City government into the policies put forward by our national government agencies, I’m calling on your support to revive the cultural heritage of the city,” Domagoso told the two executives.

TIEZA is an agency under the Department of Tourism mandated to implement policies and programs for the department. It is in charge of the development, promotion, and supervision of tourism infrastructure projects.

IA is also an attached agency of the DOT, responsible for the orderly restoration and redevelopment of Intramuros.

Among the projects the mayor and the two executives talked about were the rehabilitation of the Lawton-Intramuros underpass, the setting up of additional pedestrian lanes in the walled city and installation of new light posts, the removal of illegal settlers at the Club Intramuros Golf Course, the putting up of new signages for tourist destinations, and the rehabilitation of the Children’s Park in Luneta.
