Three members of the Abalos family have secured three top positions in Mandaluyong City in the recently concluded 2019 midterm elections.

Incumbent Mayor Carmelita “Menchie” Abalos of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan defeated her challenger, independent candidate Florencio Solomon, with 128,661 votes against 8,589 votes.

With the massive lead, Abalos gets a fresh mandate to serve a second term as mayor of Mandaluyong. Abalos replaced her husband, Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos II, who served three consecutive terms as mayor from 2007 to 2016.

Their two children were elected as the top councilors for two of the city’s districts.

Reelectionist Charisse Abalos-Vargas, also of PDP-Laban, topped the list of councilors for the first district with 73,915 votes. Her brother Benjamin Abalos III, of the same party, ranked highest for the city’s second district with 44,635 votes.

“To all Mandaleño, thank you very much for continuing to trust me,” Mayor Abalos said after her proclamation. “I will never fail the love that you have given me.”
