Mandaluyong to distribute 100,000 grocery packs
Mandaluyong City will distribute 100,000 grocery packs to its residents in dire need amid the enhanced community quarantine.
“Ang pamahalaang lungsod po ay mamimigay ng mga grocery packs para sa mga higit na nangangailangan sa kanilang mga bawat bahay sa pakikipagtulungan ng ating mga kapitan na siyang naatasan ng ating Pangulo,” Mayor Carmelita Abalos said.
Abalos said grocery bags will be given weekly for a month. Each household will receive one grocery bag.
“Nawa’y maunawaan natin na ang munting tulong na ito ay hindi sasapat para sa kalahatan. Nais nating unahin ang mga pamilyang kapos sa buhay,” the city mayor said.
Jimmy Isidro, City Public Information Office chief and chief of staff of the city mayor, said 100,000 grocery packs will be distributed to all 27 barangays in the city by weekend.
He said the grocery packs contains rice, canned goods, sugar, coffee, and other grocery items.
Distribution of the food packs, Isidro said, was not immediately made because they are still waiting for the delivery of rice from Nueva Ecija.
“The grocery packs will be good for one week,” Isidro said. “It will be distributed door-to-door by our barangay officials.”
Barangay officials and personnel are the ones tasked to distribute the food packs because people are not allowed to go out due to the quarantine being implemented, the city official explained.
This is also to avoid people queuing for food packs which defeats the purpose of social distancing imposed by the government due to the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
According to Isidro, barangays in the city require households in their jurisdiction to have a permit whenever they leave their homes to either purchase food or for medical reasons.
He said only one family member is allowed to go out.
“The barangay captainswill distribute the permits to each household,” Isidro said, adding that this is to prevent the residents from going into the barangay hall to get their permits.
