The Makati Super Crunch remained high in the end game to hold off the Bicol Volcanoes, 83-75, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Cup at the Caloocan Sports Complex.

Pressure defense and the run and gun game delivered pretty well for Makati to claim their second straight win.

Down by 11-18 in the first quarter, Makati flipped the game in the second frame as they converted 15 fast break points led by Rudy Lingganay and Jeckster Apinan giving them a 36-28 half time lead.

Bicol answered back Chris Lalata stole the ball that led for a Raffy Gusi's and-one play, reclaiming their lead, 54-53 with 1:22 remaining in the third but Simon Atkins took back the lead quickly before Mark Cruz bounced in a jumper to end the third 59-54, in Makati's favor.

They went head on the final frame and at the 5:16 mark Jerome Garcia faked off his defender for a step back three-point bomb, 67-65, Bicol ahead. Leading by four, Makati replied with a 5-0 run including a circus three-point play for Apinan, 70-69. Josh Torralba then made five straight points for Makati before forcing Bicol an eight-second violation. Simon Atkins followed with a layup to create a 79-69 separation with under two minutes left.

Off a timeout, Jerome Garcia nailed a triple, 72-80 with 53.8 seconds left. Makati then whistled for a technical foul after committing their second delay of game infraction. Bicol then played a foul game resulting for a Guci's disqualifying foul, ejecting him out of the playing court with only 35 seconds left.

Makati then carried on to win the game. Apinan once again spearheaded Makati with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds as Rudy Lingganay added 14 markers and four assists.

Lalata and Alwyn Alday, meanwhile, were the topscorers for Bicol with 14 and 12 points respectively.

The Super Crunch now won their six games with only one defeat while Bicol went on for their third straight defeat, 5-5.
