Students of Gen. Pio del Pilar Elementary School in Makati are trained on proper handwashing techniques as part of safety protocols implemented in all public schools since February on the orders of Mayor Abby Binay to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the city.

The students have been instructed to sanitize with alcohol and observe proper coughing and sneezing etiquette. School premises, especially common areas, have been regularly sanitized and disinfected, while students, teachers and visitors are subjected to temperature checks before entering the campus.

Following the Presidential order suspending classes until March 14, Mayor Abby has directed the Makati police and public safety personnel to closely monitor malls, cinemas and other establishments and public places to keep out students, who have been asked to stay at home for their safety.

Earlier, Mayor Abby placed emergency response teams on high alert and formed a task force to focus on preventing and mitigating COVID-19 transmission, including the setting up of an isolation facility to accommodate persons showing symptoms of infection should the need arise.
