The Makati City local government announced that it is intensifying its Covid-19 vaccination drive to include members of the city’s Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Association (TODA) and Jeepney Operators and Drivers’ Association (JODA) following the new surge in Covid-19 cases being tallied in the country, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

In a set of photos posted on its official Facebook page, the city government said that a total of 104 individuals belonging to various transportation groups were given the Covid-19 vaccine in the three terminals in Makati — Guadalupe-Buting TODA/JODA, Guadalupe Pateros MACDA, and MAYATODA as of Aug. 1.

It added that the three sites were opened for the city’s vaccination drive to make them more accessible to pedicab, jeepney, tricycle, and taxi drivers in the city and keep them safe from the virus, most especially with the detection of the more transmissible Omicron variants which may cause re-infection and even evasion from the vaccine.

Drivers may proceed to these sites until Friday, August 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to get their vaccine shot. They are also reminded to bring their vaccination card and ID.

On Aug. 2, the Makati Health Department (MHD) reported 261 active Covid-19 cases, 55,808 recoveries, and 1,028 deaths.

It also reported 508,717 individuals who have received their first jab of the vaccine, and 530,318 who have been fully vaccinated. The city government has also boosted 317,574 individuals against the virus.

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said the city government is ramping up the Covid-19 inoculation capacity of barangay health centers by transferring the vaccination sites to barangay health centers, which will also help those who are incapable of traveling to other Bakuna Makati sites such as senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD).
