Newly appoined House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco met lawmakers hours before the special session in the plenary, according to a report by CNN Philippines.

Velasco and congressmen, dominated by his allies, are set to meet at the Celebrity Sports Plaza in Quezon City to tackle the 2021 budget. The event will start at 10:00 a.m. Velasco told CNN Philippines there are no plans of conducting session at the said venue. He said there is a possibility that lawmakers will head to Batasan after their gathering .

Congressmen also used the same venue on Monday when they elected Velasco as the new House leader, along with Atty. Jocelia Bighani Sipin as new House Secretary General and former PNP Aviation Security Group director Ma-O Aplasca as Sergeant-at-Arms.

No other details have been provided, but lawmakers continue to arrive in the area, which is just minutes away from the Batasang Pambansa Complex.

House appropriations panel chair Eric Yap, who earlier ensured smooth passage of the spending measure regardless of the speakership rift, was among the lawmakers seen in the venue.

The special session in the plenary is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. to resume debates on the 2021 General Appropriations Bill.
